Honeycut To Open In Downtown L.A. – New Bar From Proprietors LLC And 213 Ventures Showcases Cocktails And Music
Los Angeles, CA - September 26th, 2013 - Alex Day and David Kaplan of Proprietors LLC (Death & Company; NYC) and Cedd Moses and Eric Needleman of 213 Ventures (The Varnish and Seven Grand; Los Angeles) announce their first partnership with the opening of Honeycut in October 2013. Located behind the O Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, the new venue will offer an innovative mix of craft cocktails and music.
”Honeycut has been a long time in the making and Alex and I are thrilled to bring it to life with Cedd and Eric. It is absolutely of this place and this incredible team. It’s a new chapter for us, how we think about cocktails and nightlife as a whole.” says Kaplan. Adds Cedd Moses, “A venue that features a dedicated dance space as well as a great drink program to complement that experience will be a first for both 213 and downtown L.A. Proprietors LLC are an ideal partner for us as they have a proven track record for providing world-class cocktails and share 213’s values for guest experience.”
Honeycut features over 3,000 square feet of space divided into two distinct rooms, each created to provide a platform where music, cocktails and nightlife intersect. The first, the Cocktail Bar, is open nightly from 6pm–2am, featuring a billiard’s table, upholstered diamond-tucked booths, and an upright piano. The Cocktail Bar will spotlight occasional live music performances, hosting up to 65 people at a time for an intimate bar experience. The second and most active room is the Disco, open from 9pm–2am. The Disco holds 90 guests and is anchored by an analog LED dance floor, a long open bar, and raised booth seating. During live performances, the raised seating transforms into a performance space with room for a full band. Bands, solo artists, and both established and underground DJs will be showcased weekly at Honeycut.
Criminal Music’s Tera Uhlinger, in collaboration with Matt Goldman of MFG Productions, will direct the venue’s music programming. Both Criminal Music and MFG are recognized for their successful representation and promotion of emerging artists and nationally acclaimed bands, musicians, DJs and events. Acts will be revealed to the public the day of performance through Honeycut’s social media channels (@HoneycutLA).
Proprietors LLC Beverage Director Devon Tarby worked with Alex Day to develop Honeycut’s intricate bar program featuring over 50 cocktails available at The Cocktail Bar. The Disco will have a concise menu designed for efficient service and accessibility, including bottled cocktails and cocktails on draft. Wine and beer programming has been selected by Adam Weisblatt, Honeycut’s General Manager.
Honeycut’s design was lead by Patry+Kline, a Los Angeles based design firm who also designed Chapter & Verse and Seven Grand. Their design directs the idea of egalitarian opportunity for exploring music, culture and well-crafted drinks. The Disco is wrapped with hand finished textured wallpaper on wood paneling and set to mingle well with the craft materials of steel and wood used for the bar and surrounding area. The room features upholstered booths for seating and drapery surrounding the raised stage. The Cocktail Bar is designed with mirrored ceilings, walls of wood slats in varying shades of Prussian blue, and concrete floors with handmade tables and stools in rich woods that complete the space.
The venue is located behind 819 S. Flower St. and will be open 6pm – 2am nightly. Entry is located in the alley parallel to Flower Street and is accessible from 8th or 9th Street.
