Son Ark arrived in Los Angeles by way of Roanoke Virginia (which lays exactly between The Grand Ole Opry and Apollo Theatre) when they heard a rumor that Sam Philips was rebuilding Muscle Shoals on the west coast. Since then, son ark has been filling establishments across Los Angeles with their unmistakably unique brand of Americana roots rock and with lyrics that tell tales of bygone eras and heartbreaking love lost, son ark longingly reminds us of days gone by. The songs are not antiques, though. Influenced by the likes of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Patsy Cline, Andrew Bird, and Led Zeppelin, son ark tells their tales in a decidedly contemporary way. See for yourself. And try the pickle back. Trust me.

Acclaimed Los Angeles Whiskey Bar Debuts Second Location
Celebrated nightlife operator Cedd Moses together with partner Eric Needleman, open Seven Grand Whiskey Bar in San Diego, California, bringing their contemporary and distinguished brand of whiskey culture beyond Los Angeles for the first time. The newest endeavor from Moses’ 213 Nightlife group debuts in San Diego’s North Park neighborhood adjacent to some the city’s most vibrant and diverse collection of restaurants and bars.
The 4,100-square foot space is inspired by a traditional hunting lodge and features spacious indoor, outdoor, and private room seating bathed in dark, warm hues. Architect and designer Patry + Kline bring the aesthetic to life with walnut and mahogany handcrafted woodwork, a whimsical taxidermy collection reflected in the original Los Angeles location, custom snugs (mahogany-walled leather booths), Scottish plaid textiles, and a dedicated cigar patio.
Drawing from the extensive variety of whiskeys, ryes, and Scotches found throughout the world including the US, Europe, Japan, and India, the expertly curated menu will include over 200 marks as well as Seven Grand’s award-winning cocktail list highlighting vintage and modern recipes with fresh pressed juices and handmade syrups. To complement the whiskey-focused menu, Seven Grand San Diego General Manager Mike Vizcarra has created a thoughtful lineup of beer with a focus on hyper-local brews, a nod to San Diego’s prolific craft beer culture.
Seven Grand San Diego will also offer the brand’s eponymous “Whiskey Society,” a unique membership program providing guests the opportunity to further explore the spirit via education and experimentation with comprehensive tastings featuring Master Distillers, International Brand Ambassadors, and notable members of the liquor industry.
Seven Grand is located in San Diego’s North Park neighborhood (3054 University Ave) and is open 7 days a week from 8pm-2am. Beginning late summer, the venue will feature liveentertainment from local artists featuring Jazz and Blues with no cover charge. For more information, please call 619-269-8820 or visit www.sevengrandbars.com .
213 is Los Angeles’ acclaimed nightlife group helmed by celebrated hospitality innovator Cedd Moses. Under his deft touch, 213 has both established and elevated the city’s craft cocktail culture through its diverse collection of over ten bar/restaurant venues, attracting more than one million customers each year. 213 was the first nightlife developer to stake a claim in downtown’s historically significant buildings, transforming the neighborhood into a cultural destination and contributing to the bustling downtown real estate renaissance that has reinvented modern LA living. Each bar, set in reclaimed architectural gems, showcases distinct and dedicated spirit programs led by some of the country’s luminary bartenders offering guests an authentic—and accessible—sense of place including Seven Grand; Cole’s French Dip & Red Car Bar; The Varnish; Las Perlas; Golden Gopher & 8th Street Bottle Shop; Caña Rum Bar; Broadway Bar; Tony’s Saloon; and Casey’s Irish Pub. Currently in a dynamic period of growth, 213 is expanding with the debut of Seven Grand in San Diego as well as Cole’s French Dip LAX and Seven Grand LAX both slated for late 2012.
