In New Orleans they still consider this a breakfast drink. The Ramos Gin Fizz is one of the more refreshing cream drinks that helps bite the hair of the dog. Invented in the 1880s by Henry C. Ramos, in his bar at Meyer’s Restaurant, this is one of New Orleans’ most famous drinks. At the height of its popularity, the Imperial Cabinet Saloon reportedly hired dozens of “shaker boys” whose only job was to give this cocktail the vigorous shake it requires. The secret of its flavor and texture is orange flower water and egg whites. Watch Eric Alperin & Chris Bostick shake one up here while they “Hangin with Harris”.
