Matt Wilson (Ballast Point’s Sales & Marketing Manager) will be tasting you on 8 of their amazing beers! The line up includes Wahoo Wheat, Calico Amber, Yellow Tail Pale Ale, Big Eye IPA, Sculpin IPA, Tongue Buckler Imperial Red, Sea Monster Imperial Stout & a secret beer!

The heart and lungs of Escalator Hill belong to singer-songwriter Antony Benedetti, whose subtle twang and frenzied strums make Escalator Hill an American anachronism. The band could be from anywhere, or any time; they would be at home playing beside Waylon Jennings or Willie Nelson, Neutral Milk Hotel or the Arcade Fire. This timeless sound springs from Benedetti’s soul-on-his-sleeve spirit that pushes Escalator Hill past the superficiality of faux folk nostalgia acts.

Escalator Hill, best described as Orchestral Country-tinged Roots Rock, has made appearances at music festivals like the Hollywood Fringe Festival, played in acclaimed establishments like Fillmore Poster Room in San Francisco and The Echo in Los Angeles, and has actively toured California, Arizona, and Nevada. They are ranked #8 out of 300 LA artists in the folk rock web buzz genre on the Deli Magazine and their debut album, ‘Poplar Avenue’ was listed on Radio Free Silverlake’s Top 10 albums of 2011. Completing a October month-long residency at the Social Aid and Pleasure Club in Santa Monica, CA, they were also featured artists on Knockandrock.com-a web series highlighting independent songwriters and bands. Escalator Hill has a partnership with Itunes, Spotify, and Band Camp-offering a multitude of ways to listen.

This coming Tuesday,  May 15th, we will be hosting Keith Kerkhoff and Scott Bush, founders of Templeton Rye Whiskey. Punch will be served at 6:30, tasting and education will start at 7pm.

Templeton Rye is made in the tiny town of Templeton, Iowa. (Pop. 350) This Rye was Al Capone’s favorite, and his gang bootlegged it coast to coast. Come hear the tale of this resurrected Prohibition-Era Rye.

Former Whiskey Society Co-curator Matt Wallace (now at Harvard and Stone,) is from Iowa, and we have been asking about this whiskey for years now.

I am very excited to be celebrating it’s West Coast release in the Jackalope Room.
