Spring/Summer 2011 Cocktail Collection explores the World of Whiskey
June 14, 2011 – Seven Grand, Los Angeles’s premier whiskey outpost, invites the city to taste the Irish Vandal, Dagny Taggart, The Scofflaw, The Boulevardier, and its 2011 Spring/Summer cannon of flavorful cocktails and punches shaking and stirring the palates of neophytes, as well as the city’s most discerning imbibers, since its expanded drinks menu debuted earlier this month. The Spring/Summer 2011 menu is Seven Grand’s first seasonal offering andall-new cocktail collection since the premium whiskey bar launched in Historic Downtown in 2007. Inspired by the venue’s vast selection of Single Malt Whiskey from Scotland, Japan, India, Ireland and the U.S., Seven Grand’s refined drink program, encourages guests to explore the spirits full spectrum of flavor and style.
The Seven Grand crew lead by recently appointed General Manager and Australia native Angus McShane, journeyed through cocktail history discovering drinks from the mid-1800′s to the present in the development of its new seasonal slate of House Originals and Vintage Cocktails.
“Seven Grand serves over 500 Old Fashioneds every week, given the awareness of the style of drinks we offer, we researched drinks from the same era focusing on classic cocktails which were simple in their ingredients, but embodied a unique characteristic using whiskey as the base.” noted McShane, who most recently helmed The Edison, and served as General Manager at Copa d’Oro. A Vincenzo Marianella protégé, Angus was part of the core crew of barmen who launched Copa d’Oro.
Two punches were also added to Seven Grand’s repertoire of whiskey libations: Canadian Punch, a Jerry Thomas classic from 1862 (Rye Whiskey, Jamaican Rum, Fresh Pineapple and lemons) is featured on the Vintage Cocktails menu, and Kentucky River Fish Kill Punch (Rye Whiskey, Aperol Rhubarb Liqueur, Fresh Grapefruit, Grated cinnamon and Italian Prosecco) anchors the Seven Grand Original Cocktails list. Seven Grand’s 300+ (bottles) whiskey library includes small batch limited editions and rare expressions from distilleries no longer in operation (Littlemill 1984, North of Scotland 1964, Macallan 55 year, The Glenlivet 1972, Charbay, among others).
