Let’s look at some comparative figures: Champagne sales down 5% in the first nine months of 2012, whereas Scotch Whisky sales were up 12% in the 12 months to the end of June 2012 and are forecast to keep growing at a high rate. Asia accounts for just 5% of Champagne sales, whereas Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea are all in the top ten consumers of Scotch Whisky and demand in India, which is the world’s largest spirits market by volume after China, is soaring. Gov’ts Booze Reform Sobering Plan – New York Post

The paper says health advisers to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo are calling for higher taxes on liquor sales and restrictions on the hours for drinking establishments, among several changes designed to curb teen drinking and binge drinking by adults.
